What is Customer  Address?

As discusses before Customer Address is the address of the customers or the address where the parcel has to be delivered. You also need to ensure that all the products have their respective weights and dimensions assigned to them.

The three customer address type available are:

  • Normal Delivery Address
  • Australia Post Parcel Locker
  • Australia Post Parcel Collection location

Why is Different Customer Address Relevant?

In general, billing and shipping address are available for customers at the checkout page. But with this plugin, you can offer alternate options for delivery where your customers can have their packages delivered. So, in any case, someone is unable to pick the package at his/her residential or normal address, he/she can use the parcel locker and the post offices as their address for delivery of the parcel. The parcels are retained at these facilities and the customer can receive their parcels at desired times.

One more scenario where this is used, when customers need to reschedule a pickup. In this case, you can receive requests form your customers for a change in the shipping destination. So you can get into your admin panel and execute the address change. And the availability of the secure and free alternate address for storing packages gives a lot of flexibility for both the store owner and the customer. So with Australia Post home does not remain the only delivery address for your customers.

Normal Delivery Address

A normal delivery address is the billing/shipping address that is entered by the customer during the placement of the order. It can be a residential or a commercial address. Usually, these addresses happen to be the house or the workplace of the customer. You can change these address form the edit order page if required.

Australia Post Parcel Locker

Now your customers can use a 24*7 accessible parcel locker to deliver their parcels alternatively. This has been introduced by Australia Post to offer convenience to its clients and their customers. So in all cases when your customer wishes to deliver their package to a nearby parcel locker, you can log in to the admin area and select the parcel locker for that specific customer.

You get more than 290 such locations where Australia Post parcel lockers are identified. These parcel lockers are considered secure and can be accessed free of cost. Your customer needs to collect the parcel at any time in the next 48 hours from the selected parcel locker.

List of items not suitable for Parcel Locker

For safety and security reasons, the following items can’t be delivered to (or sent from) a Parcel Locker:
  • Letters and standard mail that can be delivered to your letterbox
  • Express Post letters
  • Registered Post items
  • Parcels larger than 39 x 36 x 64cm
  • Parcels heavier than 16kg
  • Parcels that require proof of identity
  • Parcels that require the recipient’s ID to be recorded at delivery
  • Parcels where there is a payment required on delivery
  • Parcels that are damaged or unsuitably packaged
  • Parcels delivered by a courier that has chosen not to deliver to our parcel lockers
  • Parcels containing perishables
Parcels containing alcohol is not permitted if the customer is over the age of 18 and has verified their date of birth.

If your customers can’t get to the Parcel Locker within 48 hours, Australia Post transfers your parcel to the Australia Post facility associated with that Parcel Locker. If the package is not collected within the next 10 business days, your item will be returned to sender.

Australia Post Parcel Collection Location

Parcel Collection Location or the Australia Post post office can also be used as a customer’s address when shipping through Australia Post. Your customers can use 3600 of these post offices across the continent as their address to accept the parcels they order. Parcels dropped off at a locker will be collected by our staff by the end of the next business day. So, if you’re sending an Express Post parcel, you’ll need to allow an extra business day for delivery. The Express Post next-business-day guarantee does not apply with this option.

Most parcels can be sent to a participating Post Office, as long as they’re less than 22kg in weight and no more than 105cm in any dimension.

The following items can’t be delivered to participating Post Offices:

  • Letters and standard mail that can be delivered to your letterbox
  • Express Post letters
  • Parcels heavier than 22kg
  • Parcels greater than 105cm in any dimension
  • Parcels where there is a payment required on delivery
  • Parcels that are damaged or unsuitably packaged
  • Parcels delivered by a courier that has chosen not to deliver to a Parcel Collect location
  • Parcels containing perishables

Parcels containing alcohol will only be permitted if the customer is 18 years of age or over and has verified their identity and date of birth.

Insurance

The plugin provides you the options of Insurance for the parcels sent via Australia Post. Insurance is available for both domestic and international services. So if you feel that the products you sell needs safety during delivery and any damage can lead to higher losses, you can enable insurance/extra cover. you can enable extra cover by navigating to Dashboard> WooCommerce> Settings> Shipping> Australia Post> Rates & Services> Extra Cover. 

Items sent via ShopMate have no coverage for loss or damage. However, Extra Cover is available for items valued up to AUD5,000.00. It covers against loss, theft or damage to your parcel while shipping through Australia Post.

Show the Cheapest Rate

Almost all the major e-commerce website offers a single shipping rate which is mostly a flat rate. But with this plugin, you can show Australia Post shipping rates to your customer. Not only this you can choose to display the cheapest rate of all the available rates. This helps you eliminate confusion from the minds of your customers.
