How Can You Set Offers and Discounts in Your WooCommerce Store?
The convenient and reliable way to set price drops and setting various discounts and offers is to choose a robust plugin for your WooCommerce store. As WooCommerce is highly flexible to add more advanced options and features with the help of plugins and extensions, you can choose any free or premium plugins for advanced dynamic pricing features for your store.
If you only need to provide basic offers based on the products or categories along with some limited features, you can choose a free plugin to start with. You can either choose from WordPress or find a free WooCommerce dynamic pricing plugin and download it from its respective product page.
If you choose a premium advanced dynamic pricing plugin for your online store, you can set the discounts specifically for certain user roles in your store or make it only available based on a user’s purchase history.
In this article, I would like to discuss how you can apply cart discounts using a free dynamic pricing plugin -ELEX WooCommerce Dynamic Pricing and Discounts Free plugin.
Cart discounts are quite familiar to all of us. That is, an offer is applied based on the number, weight, or total price of the products we have added into the shopping cart. For example, if I have set a discount rule as, “when a customer purchases a minimum of 5 products from my shop, $10 should be deducted from their subtotal level”. Similarly, you can set different offers based on the products in customers’ shopping carts.
Let us check how we can apply discounts based on the quantity, weight, and price of the products in a customer’s shopping cart.
Apply Cart Discount Using ELEX WooCommerce Dynamic Pricing and Discounts Plugin
ELEX WooCommerce Dynamic Pricing and Discounts plugin is a top-notch dynamic pricing plugin for your WooCommerce store, which has both free and premium versions with a handful of advanced features. Here in this article, we are going to discuss how we can apply cart discounts with its basic version plugin. You can download this plugin from WordPress or you can go to its respective product page and download from there. When you need to add some advanced features and want to offer different discounts, you can upgrade to its premium version.
This plugin helps you to create 2 types of discounts in your store such as:
- Discount based on products – Product rules.
- Discount based on product categories – Category rules.
You can create the cart discount with the Product rules in this plugin.
For that, install and activate the plugin in your WooCommerce store.
Then go to WooCommerce -> Dynamic Pricing.
A new tab will be opened to set up dynamic pricing rules. There you can find the product rules.
Click on Add New Rule.
Give an offer name for identifying the particular offer in your store. For example: “BLACK FRIDAY SALE!”. And choose ‘Products in cart for’ option to apply the discount rule on all products in a customer’s shopping cart.
Then you can choose whether you need to apply the rules based on the quantity, weight, or price of the products in the cart and their minimum and maximum range accordingly. Choose a discount type from the drop-down pick up list. You have 3 options for applying discounts to the products in the shopping cart. They are,
- Percent discount: Enter the percentage value for deducting that particular percentage of actual amount from each product in the cart.
- Flat discount: The entered amount will be deducted from the subtotal level of the products in the cart.
- Fixed price: You can enter an amount here, and it will replace the actual amount of the products in the cart.
You can apply some additional features with this robust basic dynamic pricing plugin. For more advanced features, you can unlock the premium version.
If you want to give the offers to specific customers based on their user roles, you can choose the roles and set the date range of the offer to be live on your WooCommerce store. For doing that, click on Allowed Roles & Date.
You can save the rule after that.
Check an example:
If a customer purchases an amount of 3-5 of the same product from your store, a 10% discount should be applied to the price of the product in the shopping cart. It will apply the discount if you add the same product 3-5 times in the cart.
You can set it as:
The saved rules will be listed as a table with its information on the bottom of the tab.
Check the cart page after updating the rule in your WooCommerce store.
In the above screenshot, you can see that I have added 3 products into the cart. Hence $4.5 has been deducted (10% of $45) from the individual product price.
Similarly, you can set different offers with different types of discounts for attracting customers to your online store.
If you have created multiple rules in your store, you can also set its execution order and calculation mode for prioritizing and applying the discounts to a product, if it is eligible for multiple offers.
If you have applied the product rule for specific products and categories in your store, you can display the pricing table that shows all the available discount offers for a particular product in their individual product pages.
Upgrade to Premium for Cart Rules
If you have upgraded to its premium version, there is a separate discount rule you can set on the products in customers’ shopping cart. In that, you can check for the number of items, weight, price, and total units in the cart for applying the rule.
You can apply the cart rule to specific attributes of the variable products. It will apply the discount rule when the products in the cart match any one of the attributes or all the listed attributes. And also, you can apply discounts based on payment methods. Like payment methods, you can restrict cart rules to desired shipping methods. This setting will list all enabled default shipping methods as well as premium shipping methods in your WooCommerce store.
Other discount rules you can find in the premium version are:
- Combinational Rules
- Category Combinational Rules
- Buy and Get Free Offer (BOGO) Rules
- Buy and Get Offer (BOGO) Category Rules
- Tag Rules
- BOGO Tag Rules
